Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that eradicating counterfeit medicines has become essential, and that there will be no compromise on enforcing 2D barcode technology across pharmaceutical products.
Kamal made the remarks while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad that assessed progress on putting 2D barcodes on medicine packaging. The meeting was told that 80 percent of pharmaceutical companies have already started the enforcement process.
Notices and penalties for non-compliant drugmakers
The meeting decided that formal notices will be issued to companies that have not submitted their product data to the Health Ministry. Legal action will follow against non-compliant firms once the specified deadline expires.
