Cameron Diaz Revives Cult Classic Troop Beverly Hills with TriStar Sequel

Cameron Diaz has added another significant project to her expanding list of comeback roles by reviving the beloved 1989 cult comedy Troop Beverly Hills for the big screen. TriStar Pictures is developing a sequel to the original film, with Diaz, 53, attached and currently considering a starring role.

In a notable development, Clea DuVall, 48, will direct the sequel and has penned the screenplay. DuVall, known for her work on The Intervention and Happiest Season, also appeared in last year’s Swiped. The original Troop Beverly Hills featured Shelley Long as Phyllis, a wealthy Beverly Hills woman who takes charge of her daughter’s Girl Scout troop to stay connected during her divorce. Although the film was not a major success upon release, it has since gained a devoted fanbase and is now celebrated as a cult classic.

Details about the sequel’s plot have yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, this project marks another highlight in Diaz’s remarkably busy return to acting. She made her comeback in 2025 after a decade-long hiatus with the Netflix action comedy Back in Action, starring alongside Jamie Foxx.

Additionally, Diaz stars with Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer in Jonah Hill’s comedy Outcome, which began streaming on Apple TV+ on April 10. In March, she was also seen filming a separate project in New York City. Further expanding her portfolio, Diaz is involved in a romantic comedy directed by Stephen Merchant and an action-comedy titled Bad Day, where she portrays a single mother experiencing the worst day of her life.

Looking ahead, Diaz is expected to reprise her role as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, scheduled for release in 2027, underscoring her continued presence in high-profile projects.
