LAHORE: Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have reached a record high, with rates climbing to Rs600 per kilogram in hilly areas. Irfan Khokhar, chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, made the claim.
Khokhar said LPG was selling for Rs500 per kilogram in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a level that is squeezing household finances. He added that a domestic cylinder was retailing at Rs7,200 in hilly areas and Rs6,000 in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Market rates far above OGRA-set prices
Current market prices are well above the rates the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) set for October. According to Khokhar, OGRA fixed LPG at Rs279 per kilogram, with a domestic cylinder priced at Rs3,350.
Distributors call for government intervention and imports
Khokhar urged the government to take immediate steps to control prices and ease the burden on consumers. He suggested using the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) terminal to help bring rates down, and called for immediate LPG imports to improve supply. He said urgent action was needed to stop consumers paying far more than officially notified prices.
