A shooting in the Yvelines district west of Paris has left one person dead and at least four others injured, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on Friday. A suspect has been arrested.
Gunman fired from car, Trappes mayor says
Ali Rabeh, mayor of the Yvelines town of Trappes, told BFMTV that a man fired shots from his car. He said the gunman appeared to be shooting at random and seemed determined to carry out a massacre.
Rabeh said one of the wounded was a 12-year-old girl and that the shooter lived in a nearby town. He added that there was no information so far about the gunman’s motives.
Security forces mobilised as anti-terror prosecutors monitor case
Lecornu wrote on X that security forces had been fully mobilised. He added that the national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office was monitoring the situation.
Representatives of the prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and the prefecture declined to comment. The anti-terrorism office has since confirmed that it is monitoring the case.
