Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Ordered to Jail for Probation Violation

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail following a probation violation connected to a high-speed crash in Dallas that injured several people. Rice was taken into custody on Tuesday after testing positive for THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, which breached the terms of his probation.

Prosecutors mandated that Rice begin serving a previously postponed jail sentence immediately. The Dallas County District Attorney’s office confirmed that Rice was detained in the 194th Judicial District Court for the probation violation and was ordered to serve the 30-day sentence that had been deferred earlier.

The incident traces back to March 2024, when Rice was involved in a crash on Dallas’ North Central Expressway. Authorities reported that Rice was driving a Lamborghini at speeds reaching 119 mph before causing a chain-reaction collision that injured multiple individuals. Several people involved fled the scene prior to police arrival. Rice later accepted responsibility for the crash and issued a public apology.

In July 2025, Rice pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges, including collision causing serious bodily injury and racing on a highway resulting in bodily harm. Under the plea agreement, he was sentenced to five years of deferred probation and a 30-day jail term, which could be served later if he complied with probation conditions.

Notably, the incident had already led to a six-game suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Rice is now expected to miss the Chiefs’ organized team activities and mandatory minicamp while serving his jail sentence.

Drafted by Kansas City in 2023, Rice was part of the Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl during his rookie season. This recent development marks a significant setback in his professional career.
