In Moscow, on the margins of an energy gathering, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Iranian state media reported.

Iranian state television said on Tuesday that the leaders reviewed the state of Tehran-Doha ties. They stressed widening political and economic relations and using existing capacity to boost bilateral cooperation.

The discussions reportedly also touched on energy cooperation, held during the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow. The meeting made no mention of the US-Israel war on Iran, which has involved Iranian missile and drone strikes across the region, including in Qatar.

Doha is taking part in efforts to mediate an end to the conflict, now nearly eight months old. At a weekly briefing on Tuesday, a foreign ministry spokesman urged Iran to stop threatening Gulf states so diplomacy could help ease Middle East tensions.

He said a Qatari delegation had travelled to Tehran to back mediation and help prepare the ground for a settlement with the United States.
