Iran Sets Ceasefire Conditions but Keeps Details Secret Amid Hormuz Deadline

Tehran has formulated its official conditions for a possible resolution to the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, yet it is withholding the details until it considers the timing appropriate, Iranian officials have indicated.

On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Iran has established a clear internal stance regarding recent peace initiatives. However, he emphasized that Tehran will not disclose its red lines publicly in response to external pressure or imposed deadlines.

This statement comes amid rising diplomatic tensions in the Middle East, with the region on high alert ahead of a US-imposed deadline concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has outright rejected the Tuesday ultimatum set by President Donald Trump, which demands free passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, labeling the deadline as “unrealistic and provocative.” Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s sovereign rights over its territorial waters and insisted that any settlement must address fundamental Iranian demands, including the removal of what it terms “oppressive” sanctions and solid guarantees for national security.

Experts suggest that Tehran’s decision to withhold detailed proposals is a strategic effort to maintain leverage in a high-stakes game of brinkmanship. Meanwhile, the humanitarian and economic toll of the conflict continues to escalate across the region, despite reports of indirect communications, including through Pakistan, between the involved parties.

Washington has insisted on the Strait of Hormuz being fully accessible to international shipping, with President Trump issuing repeated warnings of additional strikes on Iranian infrastructure if the waterway is not cleared. Conversely, Iran has threatened retaliatory measures while maintaining that the strait remains open to all except its adversaries.

No immediate resolution is anticipated as both sides appear resolved not to show vulnerability with the Tuesday deadline fast approaching.
