Pakistan plans a deep-sea search to recover the black box and find the wreckage of a K2 Airways cargo plane that crashed near Ormara on July 7. Authorities have briefed the aircraft’s owners on the operation, and the company will cover half of the costs of the recovery and wreckage search.
Navy located black box; foreign expertise sought
Signals from the black box stopped about a month after the crash. The Pakistan Navy used specialised equipment to locate it deep underwater, and the government is now seeking international expertise to support the recovery and the search for the wreckage in the deep sea.
Bureau reviews crash path and recovered wreckage
The Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation is continuing its probe. Investigators carried out an aerial assessment of the sea area near Ormara, where the aircraft went down. Sources said the team examined how the plane hit the sea from a significant altitude while returning from Sharjah to Karachi, and has completed an initial review of available records.
Investigators have also examined the recovered wreckage and items found in the bag of crew member engineer Hamid.
Foreign specialist firms may aid deep-sea recovery
Authorities are also considering help from international specialist companies to find the engines, the black box and the crew members in the deep sea, sources said. The investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
