NCCIA arrests Islamabad man over AI use to plan killing

A man has been arrested in Islamabad by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) for allegedly turning to artificial intelligence to find ways of killing his former girlfriend, the agency said. The arrest was made on Tuesday, and the suspect is alleged to have used several AI platforms, including Claude AI, for this purpose.

A case has been registered following an inquiry into the suspected misuse of AI and digital communication platforms, and investigations are ongoing. The agency has not said what motivated the suspect, who is alleged to have wanted to harm the woman.

Earlier cases of AI queries about violent crimes

The arrest follows other cases in Pakistan in which people allegedly sought information from AI tools about carrying out violent acts. Last month, a 17-year-old was held in Bahawalpur over claims that he asked AI how to kill his father with a poisonous substance and then tried to do it.

An NCCIA spokesperson said the boy was reportedly inspired by the American crime series Breaking Bad and had built a makeshift laboratory at home, where he attempted to make poison using details gathered from AI. In September, a separate 17-year-old was detained in Karachi after putting questions to AI platforms about killing methods. He insisted he was writing a fictional story and was later released after an investigation, according to the agency.

NCCIA urges responsible use of AI platforms

The agency has urged the public to use AI tools and online platforms carefully, warning against their use for threats, intimidation or criminal activity. It added that it remains committed to tackling emerging cyber threats, protecting citizens and ensuring accountability through lawful investigations.
