Karachi’s First Floodlit Track Set for Night Car Racing Events

Karachi has introduced its first super floodlit sports track, enabling car races to be held under LED lights at night. Located within a private housing society on the Super Highway, the facility now allows motorsport competitions to take place beyond daylight hours.

The track spans over two kilometres and is illuminated by 100 light towers, supplemented by 300 LED lights and four high-mast towers. Alongside the lighting system, a dedicated drag-race track measuring 400 metres has been established. This drag strip supports 200-metre races where two cars compete simultaneously, with vehicles reaching speeds exceeding 250 kilometres per hour. A state-of-the-art timing system has been installed at the finish line to accurately record race times.

In its initial phase, the track accommodates four major racing formats: autocross, side-by-side drag racing, drifting, and buggy ATV and remote-control off-road vehicle events. Motorsport enthusiasts in Karachi often face challenges participating in daytime races due to work and other commitments. The floodlights are expected to boost the sport’s growth by facilitating night events and providing relief from the daytime heat.

A 2.5-kilometre service line encircles the track, ensuring the presence of fire brigade, ambulance, and immediate medical assistance during events. The venue is designed to host up to 100,000 spectators and includes amenities such as a food court, accommodation, service areas, and parking for vehicles arriving from across Pakistan.

In a significant development linked to Maraka-e-Haq, 100 cars participated in a march-past at the track, featuring young drivers showcasing their skills. This event highlighted the growing enthusiasm for motorsports in Karachi and the potential of the new floodlit facility to become a hub for racing activities.
