In the eighth match of the Indian Premier League 2026, Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav delivered a stellar performance by scoring a rapid half-century, helping his team post a competitive total of 162 runs against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Yadav’s 50 came off just 36 deliveries, providing stability and momentum during a challenging innings. Mumbai Indians began their batting innings on a shaky note after being sent in to bat first. Openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma managed scores of 9 and 35 respectively before falling to the disciplined bowling attack of Delhi Capitals.

Following the early setbacks, Tilak Varma joined Yadav at the crease but was dismissed for a duck by Mukesh Kumar. Despite this, Yadav maintained composure and anchored the innings effectively. Meanwhile, Sherfane Rutherford struggled to make an impact, scoring only 5 runs before getting out, which increased the pressure on Yadav and the lower order.

In a significant development, the partnership between Yadav and Naman Dhir shifted the momentum in Mumbai Indians’ favor. Dhir contributed a valuable 28 runs off 21 balls, supporting Yadav’s efforts. The lower order further bolstered the innings, with Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch remaining unbeaten, adding 18 and 11 runs respectively. Extras accounted for 5 runs, aiding MI in reaching a total of 162.

Suryakumar Yadav’s resilience and the timely contributions from the lower order proved crucial in setting a defendable target in this high-stakes encounter.

The Delhi Capitals playing XI included KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, Vipraj Nigam, Axar Patel (captain), David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, and T Natarajan.

Mumbai Indians fielded Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Sherfane Rutherford, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Jasprit Bumrah.
