Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has extended its ban on new gas connections for an indefinite period, according to sources. The utility has also halted commercial gas supply to commercial tandoors and hotels, the sources said.

Thousands of consumers are still waiting for new connections, even though they paid urgent processing fees, the sources added. Gas is now being distributed strictly according to a designated schedule.

RLNG disruption and US-Iran conflict drive shortage

Sources said supply of Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) has been disrupted by the ongoing US-Iran conflict, deepening the gas shortfall across the distribution network. Demand has risen sharply with the arrival of winter, making steady supply even to households a serious challenge.

The shortfall in RLNG has also worsened the LPG supply crisis, and the gas crisis is expected to deepen in the coming days.

Ministry of Petroleum ban awaits easing of tensions

SNGPL sources confirmed that the Ministry of Petroleum imposed the ban on new connections. Restoration is only expected once tensions in the US-Iran conflict subside.
