Rodri Signals Potential Real Madrid Return as Contract Winds Down

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has sparked speculation about his future by expressing openness to a return to Spain, with his current contract entering its last year. The 29-year-old, regarded as one of the premier defensive midfielders globally, acknowledged that discussions regarding his next career move are imminent as his deal with City approaches expiration.

“I have one year remaining on my contract; eventually, we will need to sit down and discuss my future,” Rodri stated, indicating a possible departure. Born in Madrid, he revealed that returning to La Liga, especially to the Spanish capital, is an appealing prospect.

“Would I like to play in Spain again, in La Liga, in Madrid? Yes, I would definitely like to return,” he added. These remarks are expected to alert Real Madrid, who continuously aim to reinforce their midfield options for the long term. Despite his previous ties with Atlético Madrid, Rodri did not rule out switching allegiances within the city.

“You cannot say no to the best clubs in the world,” he remarked. Since joining Manchester City in 2019, Rodri has been instrumental in the club’s achievements, contributing to multiple major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and four Premier League titles.

However, his long-term future remains uncertain, especially as he recovers from a serious ACL injury sustained in 2024. Although no official approach has been made, Rodri’s comments are likely to fuel transfer rumors in the coming months, with Real Madrid emerging as a natural destination should he decide to leave England.
