Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will come to a constitutional end after six months, at which point the provincial government will be returned to office.

Speaking in a television interview, he said governor’s rule cannot be extended beyond that period and the provincial assembly will be restored afterwards. He added that an emergency, also in force across the province, will remain until terrorism is eliminated.

Minister calls for an all-parties conference

Chaudhry urged the opposition to convene an all-parties conference (APC) against the emergency and invite the government to explain its position. He said political leaders should come together on issues where they agree, and that the government had not yet been approached about an APC.

“If invited, I will personally explain the reasons for imposing an emergency and governor’s rule,” he said. He also said the government remained ready to resolve all issues with the opposition through dialogue.

Allegations over PTI leadership and talks

Chaudhry alleged that PTI leaders discussed negotiations in the media but avoided clear answers when invited for talks. He also claimed no single PTI leader enjoyed the consensus of the entire party.

Asked about contacts with opposition figures, he said details could not be disclosed publicly. He confirmed that talks with PTI were taking place, with some details shared with the media and others kept confidential. He said PTI should continue cooperating with the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
