Lahore to Host 10-Day Basant Festival in January-February 2027

Lahore to Host 10-Day Basant Festival in January-February 2027

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has sanctioned a 10-day Basant festival in Lahore, scheduled from January 29 to February 7, 2027. This decision follows the festival’s successful revival last year after an 18-year break. Notably, the celebrations will be paused on February 5 in observance of Kashmir Day.

In a statement, the provincial chief executive emphasized that Basant plays a vital role in promoting Punjab’s rich cultural heritage. She instructed the relevant authorities to implement comprehensive safety measures to protect citizens throughout the festivities.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari shared details of the extended 10-day event via her official social media account. Earlier, CM Maryam Nawaz had announced a three-day Basant festival from March 12 to 14, 2027, marking the first such event in nearly two decades. She highlighted that Lahore would once again be vibrant with color, culture, music, and its renowned hospitality.

Last February, Lahore witnessed its first Basant festival in over 20 years after the provincial government lifted the ban on kite flying. The three-day event, conducted under strict regulations, infused the city with festive energy. Streets and rooftops were adorned with lights and decorations, and celebrations continued late into the night.

Authorities had introduced several public facilitation measures, including free transportation services. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb described the successful event as a triumph for both Lahore and Pakistan, forecasting an even more dynamic Basant celebration in the coming year. She noted that approximately 2 million people utilized the free transport during the three days, while around 1 million vehicles entered Punjab during the festival period.
