Police have registered a case at the Agha Mir Jani Shah Police Station over the collapse of a school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony, which reportedly killed 30 children and a female teacher and injured 52 people. The case names the school owners, shareholders and the contractor who built the structure.
According to the FIR, substandard construction materials were allegedly used in the building, which was described as dilapidated and unfit for use. Complaints about the deteriorating walls and roofs had reportedly been lodged earlier. The FIR further alleges that the owners did not act on these complaints, even though children had raised concerns about the building’s condition. The roofs of a second-floor nursery classroom and several ground-floor rooms collapsed, it states.
Charges, land details and arrest efforts
The school stands on a 16-marla plot owned by Waheed and Javed, which was reportedly leased in 2024, after which the building went up. The case has been registered under Sections 148, 322 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering deaths allegedly caused by negligence. Police said efforts were under way to arrest the suspects named in the case.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa orders inspections of private schools
Following the classroom roof collapse at Al-Khair Education System in Dir Colony, the provincial government has formed district-level committees to inspect private school buildings across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). A notification from the Elementary and Secondary Education Department says the committees will survey and physically check buildings for structural defects, safety hazards and other faults that could endanger students, teachers and staff.
The committees must submit detailed reports, including recommendations for corrective measures, to the department within three days of their formation.
