Islamabad Police Enforce Strict Social Media Restrictions on Officers and Personnel

Islamabad Police have introduced stringent regulations governing social media use by officers and personnel across all ranks. The new policy, sanctioned by the Islamabad Police Inspector General, forbids posting photographs and videos while in uniform, expressing personal political or religious opinions online, and sharing departmental or classified documents without proper authorization.

Additionally, the policy prohibits personnel from using their uniforms for personal publicity, fame, or glamour. Police staff are barred from recording videos in uniform at government vehicles, offices, or private locations, with violators facing departmental disciplinary measures.

Officers and personnel are also restricted from issuing statements to the media, speaking at public forums, or writing articles without prior approval. Expressing personal political or religious views on social media is strictly forbidden, as is sharing confidential departmental documents, photographs, or other sensitive material online.

Even posts aimed at showcasing the department’s positive activities require approval from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) headquarters. The policy mandates that information about police operations be disseminated solely through the public relations branch of the Capital Police Officer (CPO).

Unit heads have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring their staff’s social media activities to ensure adherence to the new rules. The Inspector General has ordered immediate and strict departmental action against any personnel found violating these regulations, which have taken effect without delay.
