Aleema Khan Files Petition in IHC Against Imran Khan’s Solitary Confinement

Aleema Khan, sister of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, has submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), claiming that her brother is being subjected to unlawful solitary confinement at Adiala Jail.

Filed through Barrister Salman Safdar, the petition lists several respondents including the superintendent of Adiala Jail, the inspector general of prisons, the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

The petition highlights a meeting on April 8 between Imran Khan and his lawyer, during which it was revealed that the former prime minister was confined alone for 22 hours daily. It also pointed out that his wife, Bushra Bibi, was reportedly kept in confinement for 24 hours each day.

Moreover, the plea states that no family members or representatives from PTI have been permitted to visit Imran Khan over the last six months. Aleema Khan emphasized that no court ruling has authorized solitary confinement as part of her brother’s sentence, describing his detention conditions as unlawful and inhumane.

In a significant development, the petition mentioned that Imran Khan informed his lawyer during the April 8 meeting that his eyesight had worsened by 85 percent. It further argued that solitary confinement is among the most severe forms of punishment and was not included in the sentence handed down to the PTI founder.

The petition requests the court to declare the alleged solitary confinement illegal and to order the authorities to cease this practice immediately.
