The electoral process for the 24 seats of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly came to a peaceful close on Sunday, marked by stringent security measures throughout the region. Voting commenced at 8 a.m. and continued uninterrupted until 5 p.m., allowing residents ample time to cast their ballots across various polling stations.

This election witnessed a highly competitive field, with a total of 396 candidates vying for seats. Notably, a significant portion of the contenders—266 in total—stood as independent candidates, reflecting a diverse political landscape. Among the participants, only eight women entered the race, with five of them running independently, highlighting ongoing challenges related to female political representation in the area.

In a significant development, live updates on the election outcomes are being provided through an interactive map that displays initial results and emerging voting trends. This real-time visualization offers voters and observers immediate insights into the electoral dynamics as the counting progresses.

The peaceful conduct of the elections under tight security underscores the commitment to democratic processes in Gilgit-Baltistan. As results continue to unfold, the region awaits the formation of its new legislative assembly, which will play a crucial role in shaping its political future.
