Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif participated in a ceremony on Wednesday celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence, reaffirming the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the US. He emphasized collaboration in trade, investment, security, and regional stability.

In his address, the prime minister extended congratulations from the government and people of Pakistan to US President Donald Trump, his administration, and the American public. He described the history of the United States as a narrative of hope and enlightenment, while recalling that Pakistan-US relations have spanned over eighty years.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that the US was among the first nations to recognize Pakistan after its establishment and highlighted joint efforts during key moments in modern history. He underscored cooperation in counterterrorism, trade, and investment, praising the role of nearly one million Pakistani-Americans in strengthening bilateral ties. Additionally, he pointed out that around eighty major American companies operate in Pakistan, which also boasts one of the world’s largest freelance workforces.

Addressing regional developments, the prime minister credited President Trump’s timely intervention for facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. He expressed gratitude for Trump’s peace-promoting efforts in South Asia, referring to him as a “man of peace.” Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is acting as a sincere mediator between the US and Iran, thanking both nations for their trust. He also lauded Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his contributions to regional peace and stability.

Meanwhile, US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker welcomed the prime minister and highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries. She described the strategic partnership as grounded in mutual interests and shared objectives.

Baker emphasized cooperation in visa services, trade, investment, and security, noting that Islamabad had hosted high-level talks between the US and Iran. She also pointed to joint initiatives in agriculture and industry that are improving lives in both nations.

Notably, the US diplomat praised Pakistan’s role in global sports, mentioning that footballs used worldwide are manufactured in Pakistan. Reflecting on her experiences attending Lahore’s Basant festival and the Pakistan Super League final, Baker characterized Pakistan as an emerging country with a promising future.

She concluded by thanking Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership and expressing appreciation for the warmth and hospitality shown by the Pakistani people during her visits.
