Bilawal Promises ‘G-B Housing Initiative’ if PPP Wins Gilgit-Baltistan Vote

GHIZER: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has pledged to introduce a comprehensive housing scheme for Gilgit-Baltistan should his party secure a mandate in the region.

Speaking at a public rally in Ghizer during the election campaign, Bilawal emphasized that a PPP-led government would guarantee “full rights” for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He highlighted the importance of upholding the principles of the 18th Constitutional Amendment, which he noted have enhanced provincial autonomy across Pakistan.

In a significant development, Bilawal stated that his party intends to extend similar autonomy arrangements to Gilgit-Baltistan, advocating for governance rights equivalent to those enjoyed by the provinces. He further asserted that Gilgit-Baltistan would be prioritized for provincial status if other regions in the country pursue comparable constitutional reforms.

Meanwhile, on the housing front, Bilawal announced the launch of a “Gilgit-Baltistan Housing Initiative” under a PPP government. This program would mirror housing projects previously implemented in Sindh, aiming to resolve land ownership challenges and improve access to housing in the region.

Notably, he mentioned that extensive areas of state-owned land in Gilgit-Baltistan, including both agricultural and non-agricultural properties, would be considered for transfer to local residents. This move is designed to secure ownership rights for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan if the PPP assumes power.
