Prince Rahim Aga Khan Begins Six-Day Official Visit to Pakistan

Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader and 50th Imam of the Ismaili Shia Muslim community, commenced his first official visit to Pakistan on Wednesday. His trip, lasting six days, marks a significant occasion following his formal succession as Imam earlier this year.

Upon arrival, Prince Rahim met with President Asif Ali Zardari at the President’s House in Islamabad. The visit, which runs from May 20 to May 26, was extended by the Pakistani government as a gesture of respect and cooperation.

During his stay, the Prince is scheduled to visit several locations in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Passu Cones in Hunza, Gilgit city, Gahkuch Bala, Taus Yasin, and Ishkoman. He will participate in public gatherings and various ceremonial events, reflecting his role as a religious and community leader.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan V assumed the position of the 50th hereditary Imam on February 11, 2025, following the passing of his father, Imam Shah Karim al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, on February 4, 2025. This visit is his first official engagement in Pakistan since taking on this responsibility.

In preparation for the visit, federal and regional authorities have mobilized extensive resources to ensure the event is conducted with full state guest honors. To manage the expected large crowds, officials plan to hold multiple sessions at some venues to accommodate attendees safely.

Security measures include a request for a bulletproof vehicle for the Prince and heightened alertness along key routes. The National Highway Authority has been placed on standby, especially along the Karakoram Highway from Nasirabad Bridge to Sost Dry Port. The Frontier Works Organisation and police have been tasked with road maintenance, traffic control, and security duties.

Additionally, authorities have arranged for uninterrupted power supply in Upper Hunza and nearby areas during the visit. Transport services are being enhanced, and travel schedules adjusted to facilitate smooth movement for visitors and participants across the region.
