Government Denies Taliban Drone Attack in Wana; PM Lauds Security Forces’ Anti-Terror Achievements

On Sunday, Pakistan’s Information Ministry firmly rejected assertions made by the Afghan Taliban regarding a drone attack in Wana, a key area in South Waziristan. Officials clarified that the drone involved was a basic model and was neutralized through soft-kill countermeasures, ensuring that no damage was inflicted on any military facilities or critical infrastructure in the region.

The government issued a detailed statement categorically labeling the Taliban’s claims as baseless and a part of fabricated propaganda aimed at misleading the public. To substantiate their position, authorities released photographs showing the remains of the destroyed drone, underscoring the effectiveness of their defensive tactics. This incident follows earlier Taliban allegations about downing a Pakistani fighter jet and capturing its pilot—claims that were also debunked by official sources.

In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took the opportunity to commend the unwavering efforts of Pakistan’s security forces in their ongoing campaign against terrorism, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. The Prime Minister highlighted the recent successful operations conducted by the KP Police and the Counter-Terrorism Department, which resulted in the elimination of six terrorists in Kohat and the neutralization of five militants affiliated with Fida-ul-Khawarij in Lakki Marwat.

Expressing strong support for the security personnel, PM Shehbaz emphasized that these victories represent significant milestones in the country’s broader fight against extremist elements. He reiterated that the entire nation stands firmly behind the armed forces and law enforcement agencies as they strive to restore peace and stability to the region.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s resolute commitment to eradicating terrorism in all its forms from Pakistan. He stressed that the administration will continue to back comprehensive security operations and intelligence efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and safeguarding the lives of citizens across the country.
