In his inaugural press conference as the newly sworn-in Governor of Sindh, Nehal Hashmi laid out a clear vision centered on public service, unity, and inclusive governance across the province. Speaking from the historic Governor House in Karachi, Hashmi emphasized his commitment to representing every corner of Sindh, from its bustling urban centers to its most remote villages. His address marked a significant moment as he stepped into a role that demands balancing tradition with the evolving needs of the province’s diverse population.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s founding, Hashmi paid homage to the tireless leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the nation’s revered founder. He underscored that the spirit of Jinnah’s dedication and sacrifice should continue to inspire contemporary leaders. Hashmi, the Governor House is not just a symbol of authority but a welcoming institution that must remain accessible to all citizens, serving as a bridge between the government and the people it represents.

During the session, the governor highlighted the critical role of responsible communication in today’s information landscape. He urged both the media and the public to exercise discernment in distinguishing between genuine news and misinformation or propaganda. This call comes amid growing concerns about the impact of fake news on public opinion and social harmony. Hashmi expressed his personal motivation for entering public office, describing it as a heartfelt mission to address the real issues faced by the people of Sindh.

Turning to national politics, Hashmi lauded the contributions of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, particularly his efforts in expanding the country’s motorway network and initiatives aimed at eradicating load shedding and combating terrorism. He also praised the current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his effective management of the country’s affairs and noted the international recognition Pakistan has received under his leadership. These remarks positioned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as a party deeply rooted in service-oriented politics, focused on tangible development and stability.

Without directly naming political rivals, Hashmi took a subtle jab at those who had previously made lofty promises but failed to deliver, stating that the electorate has ultimately rejected such claims. This pointed commentary reinforced his message that genuine leadership is measured by service and results rather than rhetoric.

In a significant announcement tied to the ongoing holy month of Ramadan, the governor revealed plans to organize Sehri and Iftar arrangements at the Governor House for deserving individuals starting the very next day. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to social welfare and community support during a period of spiritual reflection and charity.

Hashmi also paid tribute to the Pakistan Navy, recognizing its vital role in protecting the country’s maritime boundaries and securing economic interests linked to sea trade routes. He acknowledged the navy’s contribution to national security and economic stability, highlighting the interconnectedness of defense and development.

Concluding his remarks, the governor reassured the public that every region within Sindh would receive fair treatment and development opportunities. He emphasized that all activities within the Governor House would uphold Pakistan’s cultural traditions and values, ensuring respect for the nation’s heritage. Hashmi warmly invited the people of Sindh to consider the Governor House their own home, portraying himself as a humble caretaker dedicated solely to serving the province’s citizens.
