Pakistan Railways to Run Four Special Eid Trains Amid Four-Day Holiday Announcement

In anticipation of the increased travel demand during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, Pakistan Railways has unveiled plans to operate four special trains. This initiative comes under direct instructions from the Minister of Railways, aiming to facilitate smoother and more comfortable journeys for passengers during the festive period when millions travel across the country to reunite with their families.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways detailed the schedule of these special services, highlighting that the first train will depart from Lahore bound for Karachi on March 16. Following this, on March 17, a train will leave Quetta heading towards Rawalpindi. On the same day, another special service will run from Karachi to Peshawar, catering to passengers traveling to the northern regions. The fourth and final special train is slated to operate from Karachi to Lahore on March 18, ensuring connectivity between major urban centers during this busy time.

These additional train services are part of a broader strategy to manage the surge in passenger numbers that typically accompanies Eid holidays. The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan Railways is committed to enhancing the travel experience by providing more options and reducing overcrowding on regular services. This move is expected to ease pressure on the existing network and help maintain safety and punctuality during peak travel days.

Complementing these transport arrangements, the federal government has officially declared a four-day public holiday in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr. The holiday period will span from Friday through Monday, granting citizens extended time off to celebrate the festival with their loved ones. This decision reflects the cultural significance of Eid as a time for family gatherings, religious observances, and communal festivities across Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) along with the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) have projected that Ramadan will complete its full 30-day cycle this year. This forecast suggests that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21. However, the final confirmation will come after the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convenes on March 19 to sight the Shawwal moon. While meteorologists anticipate that the moon may not be visible on that evening, the committee’s decision will ultimately determine the official date of Eid, as per Islamic tradition.

The announcement of these special trains is timely, considering the historical trend of heightened demand for railway services during major holidays. Pakistan Railways often faces challenges in accommodating the large volume of passengers traveling to their hometowns or holiday destinations. By introducing these extra trains, the railways aim to provide safer, more reliable, and more convenient travel options, thereby supporting the public’s need for efficient transportation during one of the most important festivals in the country.
