A 43-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of murder after a heartbreaking incident involving an 18-day-old baby girl who tragically lost her life following a fall from a height at a residential property in London. The arrest took place early Saturday morning at a flat located on Horseferry Road in the Westminster area, where police launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s untimely death.

Authorities were alerted to the distressing situation at approximately 7:30 am when emergency services received reports that the newborn had fallen within the premises. Paramedics rushed to the scene and provided urgent medical attention to the baby before transporting her to a nearby major trauma centre. Despite their best efforts, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital, leaving the community and family devastated.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the inquiry on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, described the case as profoundly tragic. She emphasized that the investigation is focused on understanding the events that led to the fall, which is believed to have occurred in a domestic setting. The police have expressed their deepest sympathies to the family during this difficult time and are actively seeking information from anyone who might have witnessed or has knowledge related to the incident.

In the wake of the tragedy, law enforcement officials established a police cordon along Great Peter Street, close to Horseferry Road, to facilitate a thorough forensic examination of the scene. Officers clad in protective suits were observed conducting meticulous searches inside the third-floor flat within the Peabody Estate, while traffic in the vicinity was redirected to ensure public safety and preserve the integrity of the investigation.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed that their team provided immediate care at the location before the infant was taken to the hospital. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the critical importance of child safety within residential environments. Police continue to urge anyone with relevant information to come forward by contacting the authorities via phone at 101, referencing the case number 1596/14MAR, as they work diligently to piece together the full story behind this tragic event.
