The suspect arrested in connection with the murder of a woman and her three children in Surjani Town reportedly attempted to sexually assault the victim before the killings, West Zone DIG Irfan Baloch revealed on Thursday. He explained that the suspect attacked the woman with an iron rod after she resisted his advances.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, the senior police official stated that Humayun, the accused, stayed inside the family’s home for approximately two hours, from 2pm to 4pm on the day of the incident. The case emerged on Monday when the bodies of 34-year-old Mehwish and her three young children were discovered at their residence in Sector 7-D of Surjani Town.

Following the discovery, police launched an inquiry to establish the motive behind the brutal killings and to identify those responsible. Post-mortem reports confirmed that all four victims suffered multiple head injuries.

Baloch noted that Humayun, a resident of New Karachi who worked in catering, traveled to Surjani Town on a Qingqi vehicle and deliberately switched off his mobile phone before arriving. The suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault Mehwish but struck her with an iron rod when she resisted. This same rod was reportedly used to commit the murders and was later discarded into a drain around 6pm as the suspect returned home. Police are still searching for this weapon.

In a significant development, the DIG stated that Humayun returned to the crime scene after police had arrived. He also tried to stage the incident as a robbery by removing the children’s clothes from a cupboard and scattering them inside a room to mislead investigators.

Mehwish’s mobile phone remains missing and is considered a crucial lead. Authorities suspect it was taken from the house after the murders and are exploring all possibilities related to its disappearance.

A murder case was registered against unidentified individuals, while investigators are pursuing various leads to identify all involved parties. Police have completed geo-fencing of the area and obtained call detail records to analyze suspects’ movements and communications around the time of the crime.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage, fingerprint samples, blood evidence, and other material collected from the scene. Forensic and chemical examination reports are awaited to aid the ongoing investigation. Efforts to retrieve data linked to Mehwish’s SIM card are underway to reconstruct communications preceding the killings.

The victims were laid to rest on Tuesday after all legal and medical procedures were finalized. Earlier in the investigation, police suspected that someone familiar with the family might have been involved, leading to the formation of an eight-member team dedicated to the case.

The house where the bodies were found remains sealed as investigators continue processing evidence and reconstructing the events leading up to the murders. The probe remains active as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice.
