In Lahore, two suspects accused of killing three police officers and injuring three others in separate attacks were killed during a police encounter. The suspects have been identified as a father and son duo.
Law enforcement officials pursued the suspects after they reportedly opened fire on police personnel and fled the scene in a government vehicle. The suspects abandoned the vehicle near Ravi Rayan in Sheikhupura and took refuge in a house, where they allegedly held the residents hostage at gunpoint.
Police surrounded the residence and demanded the suspects surrender. Instead, the suspects opened fire indiscriminately on the officers, attempting to escape arrest. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the deaths of the two suspects, while a third suspect managed to flee. Authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the remaining individual.
This incident follows two separate attacks on police teams in Lahore that occurred the previous day, leaving three officers dead and three others wounded. The first attack took place during a raid to arrest a proclaimed offender at Peshay Khan Chowk in the Badami Bagh area, under the jurisdiction of Larri Adda Police Station. During the raid, suspects opened fire and fled, killing Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq and Head Constable Asad, both stationed at Larri Adda police station.
Following the attack, a large police contingent secured the area and initiated search operations to track the assailants. Later that day, another officer named Haris was killed in Nawan Kot, with three additional personnel injured in an attack believed to be connected to the same suspects.
Police registered a case related to the Nawan Kot attack under terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and other relevant legal provisions. Investigations led to the identification of the suspects involved, including another individual believed to be linked to the attacks.
Earlier, two police officials—a sub-inspector and a constable—were detained on suspicion of having ties to the attackers after investigators discovered social media images showing them with the suspects. A third suspect, reportedly from Bagh in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is believed to have separated from the father-and-son suspects near the Ravi Rayan drain and remains at large.
Newly obtained footage shows three armed suspects walking through a street, reinforcing ongoing efforts to capture the third fugitive. The details of the encounter reflect the official Lahore police account and have not been independently confirmed. The broader investigation into these attacks is continuing.
