Karachi Traffic Plan Announced for Muharram Processions June 25-26

The Karachi Traffic Police unveiled the traffic management plan for the city during Muharram from the 8th to the 10th of Muharram 1448 AH, coinciding with Ashura observances. The main procession, scheduled for all three days, will begin at Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, following established traditional routes.

For security reasons, MA Jinnah Road will be closed between Guru Mandir and Tower. Commuters traveling from Nazimabad are advised to take Lasbela Chowk via the Garden area to access Nishtar Road. Those coming from Liaquatabad should turn left towards Teen Hatti and continue along Martin Road. Notably, the Liaquatabad-Guru Mandir road will be closed to traffic between 8:30 am and 9:30 am on the 9th of Muharram.

Travelers moving from Hasan Square to Peoples Chowrangi are encouraged to use Kashmir Road, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road as alternative routes. Meanwhile, traffic approaching from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Numaish Chowrangi will be redirected onto Kashmir Road starting at Society Light Signal. Additionally, those traveling from Central Jail Gate (Jamshed Road) toward MA Jinnah Road (Guru Mandir) should use the route via Guru Mandir-Bahadur Yar Jung Road (Soldier Bazar).

The 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 AH correspond to June 25 and 26 (Thursday and Friday) this year. In a significant development, the federal government has declared these two days as public holidays to facilitate Ashura commemorations. The Cabinet Division issued a notification on June 22, confirming Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval of the holidays.

Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam, with Ashura marking the 10th day when Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his family were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. Devotees participate in processions and majalis throughout Muharram, while religious scholars deliver sermons to large gatherings nationwide.
