Scottie Scheffler to Compete in Scottish Open Before Defending Open Title

World number one Scottie Scheffler has announced his participation in the Genesis Scottish Open as part of his preparation for The Open Championship, where he will defend his title. The 29-year-old golfer has chosen to skip this week’s Truist Championship ahead of the PGA Championship but plans to return to competition in July during the lead-up to the final major of the year.

“I always enjoy playing at the Genesis Scottish Open and embracing the challenge of links-style golf,” Scheffler remarked. “The tournament consistently attracts a strong field, and the enthusiastic Scottish fans make it a memorable experience.”

Last year, Scheffler delivered a solid performance at the Scottish Open, finishing tied for eighth in the event won by Chris Gotterup. This year’s tournament promises to be highly competitive once again, with notable players such as Rory McIlroy, England’s Marco Penge, and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre confirmed to participate.

Scheduled from July 9 to 12, the Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour, offering valuable points for the Race to Dubai and FedEx Cup rankings. In a significant development, The Open Championship will follow shortly after, taking place from July 16 to 19 at Royal Birkdale, marking the final major of the 2026 season.
