Gunman Killed After Attack on Engineer Mirza in Jhelum

In Jhelum, a gunman who opened fire outside the Quran and Sunnah Academy, where religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza was delivering a lecture, was killed by police on Sunday. The scholar was unharmed during the incident.

The attack occurred suddenly as the assailant began indiscriminate firing while Engineer Mirza was speaking. Constable Ahsan, who was on duty at the location, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. No other injuries or casualties were reported.

Authorities responded swiftly, engaging the attacker in a gunfight that resulted in the assailant being neutralized, preventing further harm. Regional Police Officer of Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, has taken immediate notice of the event and requested a comprehensive report. He has also ordered a thorough investigation to identify any accomplices involved in the attack.

Law enforcement agencies have begun gathering evidence from the scene, while security measures in the area have been significantly heightened. Additional police forces have been deployed at sensitive sites to maintain order and prevent further incidents.

Notably, this is not the first time Engineer Mirza has been targeted. In February of this year, he survived a similar attack during a photo session at the same academy, where the attacker was arrested. The individual had been previously detained under 3-MPO in August last year but was released on bail in December.
