Karachi Police Strengthen Security Measures Ahead of Friday Prayers

Law enforcement agencies in Karachi have escalated security measures across the city today, deploying a substantial number of both uniformed and plainclothes officers to ensure the safety of Friday prayer congregations. This initiative follows direct instructions from Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan, who emphasized the need for a thorough and coordinated security framework at the police station level.

In a significant development, the enhanced vigilance aligns with a broader provincial effort to maintain public order and prevent any disturbances during peak religious hours. Police officials have been directed to implement strict parking regulations, establishing a buffer zone that keeps vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, at a safe distance from mosques and imambargahs. This precaution aims to minimize the risk of vehicle-borne threats during the prayers.

All Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) are mandated to oversee security arrangements personally until the completion of the services. The police department has issued a firm warning that any officer neglecting their duties or abandoning their posts will face immediate departmental and legal consequences.

Meanwhile, this security enhancement is part of a wider provincial strategy initiated earlier this month under the leadership of Sindh’s authorities. Following high-level meetings chaired by Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, law enforcement agencies have been tasked with proactive community engagement, including collaboration with religious scholars to promote peace and coordination.

Authorities have reiterated a strict zero-tolerance stance on the public display of weapons and any attempts to incite unrest. Citizens are encouraged to contribute to the city’s safety by staying alert and reporting suspicious activities, unattended packages, or unusual behavior to the Madadgar 15 helpline or nearby mobile police units.
