Gold Prices Plunge Sharply in Pakistan and Global Markets

Gold prices experienced a notable decline on Monday in both Pakistan and the international markets. The price of a tola of gold in Pakistan decreased by Rs15,100, settling at Rs467,936, the All Pakistan Sarafa and Gems’ Association. Similarly, the cost of 10 grams of gold dropped by Rs12,946 to Rs401,179.

Silver prices also saw a reduction, with the price per tola falling by Rs397 to reach Rs7,112. On the global stage, gold prices fell by $151 per ounce, bringing the rate down to $4,454.

Notably, gold prices in Pakistan had remained stable on Sunday, with no changes recorded in the local market. The recent sharp decline marks a significant shift after this period of steadiness.

Gold prices in Pakistan are heavily influenced by trends in the international bullion market. Factors such as fluctuations in the US dollar’s value, expectations regarding interest rate changes, and overall investor sentiment play crucial roles in shaping domestic prices.

Typically, shifts in international gold prices are quickly mirrored in Pakistan’s local bullion markets. Market dealers in the Sarafa sector indicated that if the downward trend in international gold prices persists, local prices may continue to fall. However, they also cautioned that any resurgence of economic or geopolitical instability could drive demand for gold as a safe-haven asset, potentially causing prices to rise again.
