Nepal is urgently mobilizing rescue teams to reach workers trapped inside hydropower project tunnels following severe flooding in the region. The disaster has caused widespread devastation, with the death toll now surpassing 900, marking one of the deadliest natural calamities in recent years. The floods have not only affected local communities but also disrupted critical infrastructure, including energy projects vital to Nepal’s development.

Rescuers are facing significant challenges due to the inundated tunnels and unstable terrain, complicating efforts to locate and evacuate the trapped workers safely. Hydropower projects are a cornerstone of Nepal’s economy, providing a substantial portion of the country’s electricity and export revenue. The incident highlights the vulnerability of such infrastructure to extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change.

In a significant development, the government and emergency services are coordinating with local and international agencies to enhance rescue operations and provide relief to affected populations. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and resilient infrastructure in Nepal’s flood-prone areas. Meanwhile, the international community watches closely, offering support to mitigate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
