Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and National Assembly member Dr Farooq Sattar expressed grief on Wednesday over the deaths of five members of a family in Karachi, which were reportedly linked to financial hardship. He urged the government to seriously review the country’s economic policies.
In a statement, Sattar said the tragedy should prompt the government to reflect on its own performance. He said poverty, hunger and economic distress had once again shown the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.
Sattar urges people-friendly economic reforms
Sattar said his party is part of the government, so officials must not only point at others but also accept their own responsibilities and act. He questioned economic policymakers, arguing that if citizens cannot provide two meals a day for their children, the state must rethink its approach.
He called for policies that bring inflation down, create jobs and offer meaningful relief to low-income and middle-class households. Sattar said the core purpose of holding office is to serve the public, and that no citizen should be pushed into despair by hunger or unemployment.
He said the moment called for practical measures and immediate help for deserving families, not only expressions of sorrow.
Police find suicide note at Bin Qasim house
Police said five members of a family, including a married couple, their two young daughters and the husband’s sister, were found dead at a house in Karachi’s Bin Qasim area. The bodies were discovered during the night between Monday and Tuesday at a house in a private housing society near Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
The victims were identified as Shahzaib, 30, a property dealer; his 28-year-old wife, Saba; his 20-year-old sister, Shumaila; and their daughters, five-year-old Aizal and three-year-old Arya.
Police recovered a suicide note pointing to financial difficulties and strained family relationships. A bloodstained handwritten note found at the scene described the family’s money problems and unsuccessful attempts to seek help from relatives.
