Iran Condemns US MoU Violations, Promises Strong Retaliation to Airstrikes

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has accused the United States of significant violations of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on July 17. He emphasized that Washington’s pressure tactics will not weaken Tehran’s strategic determination.

The accusations come amid escalating military actions and diplomatic tensions that have put strain on the Pakistan-mediated agreement. This 14-point accord was designed to halt hostilities on multiple fronts and set a 60-day period to negotiate a lasting resolution.

As part of the agreement, Iran committed to reopening commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, while both parties agreed to reduce cross-border tensions.

Qalibaf took to the social media platform X to highlight four specific areas where he claimed the US had violated the MoU. These included interference with Iran’s maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz, the reimposition of unilateral oil sanctions, direct military strikes on southern Iranian territory, and the ongoing Israeli military actions in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi stated that Washington had repeatedly breached Articles 1 and 2 of the MoU over the past three weeks. He pointed to continued regional military activities in Lebanon and official US statements as evidence of non-compliance, warning that Iran would take necessary measures to safeguard its national security.

In a significant development, the Gulf region witnessed a sharp rise in military activity. Residents of Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province reported multiple explosions near Sirik County and Qeshm Island. Concurrently, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed conducting a series of airstrikes inside Iran, targeting over 80 locations.

In response, Iran’s top military authority, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, declared that the armed forces would deliver a crushing counter-response to the US airstrikes. Iranian military officials reaffirmed their control over the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that all maritime transit must comply with protocols established by Tehran.

Previously, Iran had restricted access through the strait following a naval blockade of its ports, asserting its sovereign rights over the maritime corridor under international law.
