Various chairmen of municipal towns in Karachi have filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) challenging government instructions on allocating funds for pensioners.
The high court has issued notices to the Secretary Local Government, the Director General of the Local Government department and other respondents. They have been asked to submit their replies by December 18.
Petitioners dispute mandatory 20 per cent allocation
The petitioners said the Local Government Department had directed town chairmen to allocate 20 per cent of funds for pensioners. Their lawyer argued that no law makes a 20 per cent allocation mandatory.
The lawyer warned that such an allocation could negatively affect development works in city towns. He also said the official notification cited no legal reference, and that no law suggests it.
