Trump Claims US Paused Iran Talks for Funeral Amidst Stalled Negotiations

US President Donald Trump stated that Washington temporarily suspended negotiations with Tehran to accommodate the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He asserted that Iran is now eager to reach an agreement with the United States.

Speaking at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota during the 250th anniversary celebrations of US independence, known as ‘America 250,’ Trump highlighted his administration’s military achievements and foreign policy successes. He boasted, “We beat Venezuela in one day, and we knocked the hell out of Iran; they’re dying to settle.” Referring to the stalled diplomatic talks and the recent passing of the Iranian leader, he added, “We gave him a week off for a funeral because we’re nice.”

In his address, which was heavily laced with nationalist themes, Trump emphasized American military dominance and historical victories. He claimed credit for building the “strongest and most powerful military” and recounted that the US won two world wars. He further noted that the Cold War’s conclusion left America’s adversaries relegated “to the depths of history.”

Turning to the theme of American exceptionalism, the president asserted that the US remains the world’s longest-lasting republic and a global leader in democracy and philanthropy. “At 250 years, America is the oldest republic on Earth. We are the freest people on Earth. We have the most righteous and enduring constitution on Earth,” he said. Trump also claimed that no other nation has contributed more to charity, eliminated more hunger, or cured more diseases to improve humanity’s well-being.

Shifting focus to domestic politics, Trump issued a warning about what he described as a “resurgence of the communist menace” within the United States. He criticized recent immigrants, accusing them of adopting ideas “totally opposed to our way of life and our great success.”

He portrayed communism as a dire threat to American freedom, surpassing the dangers posed by major historical events such as both world wars, the Pearl Harbor attack, and the September 11 terrorist attacks. “America will never be a communist country,” he declared emphatically.

Concluding his speech, Trump rallied his political base ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. He linked the ideological battle to governance and electoral laws, stating, “We can only lose the midterms if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms.” He advocated for abolishing the Senate filibuster and passing the “Save America Act” to secure long-term political control for his party, confidently predicting that Republicans “will not lose an election for 100 years.”
