    Millions of Pilgrims Begin Hajj, Move to Mina Amid Heatwave Warning

    MAKKAH: Millions of Muslims from across the globe have commenced the Hajj rituals, making their way to Mina, famously known as the “city of tents.” A profound spiritual ambiance filled the area, accompanied by continuous chants of “Labbaik.”

    The influx of pilgrims into Mina is anticipated to continue throughout the day, with all participants expected to spend Monday night there. Following this, on Tuesday, which corresponds to the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, they will advance to the plain of Arafat to perform the pivotal Wuquf-e-Arafat, the standing at Arafat, considered the most significant rite of Hajj.

    In a significant development, Saudi meteorological authorities have issued warnings about an ongoing heatwave during the Hajj period. Temperatures in Makkah and its surrounding regions are forecasted to reach as high as 47 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are predicted to hover around 40 percent, with dusty winds expected in certain areas.

    Saudi officials have strongly advised pilgrims to limit unnecessary sun exposure, maintain adequate hydration, and adhere strictly to safety protocols to mitigate the effects of the extreme weather conditions.

    Official data reveals that the number of international pilgrims has surpassed 1.5 million, with the majority arriving via air travel. To accommodate the large gathering, special arrangements have been implemented at the holy sites. These include additional shaded zones, cooling fans, and enhanced medical services aimed at ensuring the pilgrims’ comfort and safety throughout the pilgrimage.
