The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa education department has released the summer vacation timetable for schools across the province, distinguishing between summer and winter zones based on regional climate variations. Primary schools in the summer zone will be closed from June 1 to August 31, while middle, high, and higher secondary schools in the same zone will observe holidays from June 15 to August 16.
Meanwhile, all schools located in the winter zone will have their summer break from July 1 to July 31. To maintain some academic engagement during the vacation period in the summer zone, the education department has planned summer camps aimed at reducing interruptions in learning.
During these camps, school hours will be shortened: primary and middle school classes will run from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and high and higher secondary schools will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The summer zone encompasses major plains districts such as Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Swabi, and other low-lying areas where temperatures soar during peak summer months. In contrast, the winter zone covers the cooler, mountainous districts including Swat, Chitral, and Dir, where climatic conditions differ significantly, resulting in shorter summer vacations.
In a significant development, the education department emphasized that this staggered vacation schedule is tailored to the province’s diverse climate, ensuring that students continue basic learning activities through the summer camp initiatives despite the seasonal breaks.
