In a significant development for education in Karachi, the Momina & Duraid Foundation partnered with Google Pakistan to establish a digital learning lab at Ibn-e-Insha Primary School in Gulberg Town. This initiative aims to provide government school students with access to modern digital tools and technology, bridging the gap between public and private education sectors.
The lab was officially inaugurated by Momina & Duraid Foundation Trustee Duraid Qureshi, Google Country Lead Partner Tim Powlin, and Tech Valley Pakistan CEO Umar Farooq. Following the ceremony, the dignitaries engaged with the students, highlighting the importance of digital literacy in today’s educational landscape.
Umar Farooq emphasized that this project equips government school students with technology resources typically found in private schools and universities, such as Google Classroom and Chromebooks. He remarked, “Google is providing these children with an equal opportunity by introducing global tools into their learning environment.”
Notably, Arun Jackson, CEO of Allied Australia, a manufacturer of Google devices, announced plans to introduce locally produced Chromebooks for Pakistani students. He highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating it would promote technology transfer and expose students to the tech industry, potentially enabling them to contribute to device manufacturing in the future.
Jackson added, “Witnessing firsthand how Google and Gemini devices are transforming classrooms is truly inspiring. Local manufacturing will strengthen the technology ecosystem and create new opportunities for these children.”
Duraid Qureshi reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to integrating digital education across all its schools. He explained that the labs would be accessible during and after school hours to encourage computer literacy development among students.
He further noted the importance of preparing children for the evolving technological landscape, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence. “These children will not lag behind their global peers in education, growth, or personal development,” Qureshi stated.
Meanwhile, the Google team also visited other schools upgraded by the Momina & Duraid Foundation to assess the facilities and ensure students have the necessary resources to thrive in a digital learning environment.
