England captain Harry Brook broke several records with a double century against Sri Lanka in the third match of the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Batting first, England posted 429 for four in their 50 overs, the highest ODI total ever recorded on Pakistani soil. Brook was dismissed off the final ball of the innings after making 202 from 116 deliveries.

Brook rewrites England and ODI record books

Brook became the first England batter to reach a double century in one-day internationals. He also beat the fastest double ton, reaching the mark in 114 balls, which had been held by India’s Shubman Gill after his 223 off 117 balls against West Indies.

His innings also gave him the highest individual score by an England player, surpassing Ben Stokes’s 183 against New Zealand in 2023.

The 27-year-old now belongs to a small group of players who have scored both a triple and a double century in international cricket. India’s Virender Sehwag and West Indies’ Chris Gayle are the only other players to have achieved this.
