Babar Azam Clarifies Preferred Batting Spot in T20s Amid Debate

Former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has put an end to ongoing speculation about his preferred batting position in T20 matches. During a conversation with Ramiz Raja at the toss on Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium, Babar provided a clear and thoughtful explanation regarding his role in the batting order.

He emphasized that his choice to open the innings in the current tournament is driven by the team’s strategic requirements rather than individual preference. “This tournament, I’ll be opening the innings. This position suits me. There’ll be different opinions, but the best position for me is where the team needs me,” Babar stated.

Following his remarks, panelists on the show Har Lamha Purjosh weighed in on the discussion. They noted that opening is Babar’s natural position, where he has historically scored the majority of his runs. Basit Ali remarked that Babar should have declared this preference before the T20 World Cup began, adding, “We too said, Babar Azam should open in the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, Kamran Akmal expressed a contrasting view, asserting that Babar is inherently a number four batsman. He questioned how Babar could reveal his favored position during the World Cup yet still be assigned the fourth spot, suggesting this decision negatively impacted Pakistan’s performance in the tournament.
