In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presented a Rs10 million award to nurse Razia Noreen on Thursday in recognition of her extraordinary bravery during the catastrophic fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The tragic incident, which occurred on August 26, resulted in the heartbreaking loss of 14 newborns, leaving families and medical staff devastated.

The fire at PIMS, one of the country’s leading medical facilities, sparked widespread grief and concern over hospital safety standards. Amidst the chaos, nurse Razia Noreen’s courageous actions stood out as she risked her own life to rescue a newborn from the flames. The prime minister praised her selflessness and emphasized the importance of such fearless individuals in the nation’s healthcare system.

During her meeting with the prime minister, Noreen humbly dedicated the award to all PIMS personnel who worked tirelessly during and after the fire to manage the crisis and provide care. She also reaffirmed her commitment to continue serving with unwavering dedication despite the challenges faced.

Notably, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced that Razia Noreen would be honored with the Tamgha-e-Khidmat award at the upcoming Pakistan Day ceremony on March 23. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional courage and dedication during one of the most tragic events in recent healthcare history in Pakistan.
