PM Shehbaz and Sindh CM Commit to Political Harmony Amid Rising Tensions

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, where both leaders pledged to uphold political harmony and engage in ongoing consultations on key national matters. Their discussion covered political affairs, development projects in Sindh, and other issues of shared interest.

The meeting included several federal ministers and advisers: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

This dialogue occurred amid escalating tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), particularly following the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections. The PML-N secured victory in these polls, but the PPP has accused the process of rigging and irregularities.

Last week, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced that his party would withhold support for the PML-N-led federal government until their grievances, including those related to the AJK elections, are satisfactorily addressed. Speaking at Parliament House, Bilawal sharply criticized the conduct of the elections, alleging that the PPP was unfairly defeated in multiple constituencies due to rigging.

He emphasized that the PPP had raised concerns prior to the elections and requested adequate security measures. Bilawal also claimed that the PPP government in Poonch was undermined through electoral manipulation and criticized the phased approach to the election, noting that the process remains incomplete. He remarked, “If the PML-N desired such a controversial election, then congratulations to them.”
