Differences have surfaced within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over the strategy for its long march and the party’s wider political approach after Governor’s Rule was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to sources.
Sources said some members of the party’s core committee criticised the long march strategy at a meeting held on Saturday. Some participants also questioned how Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had planned the march.
Core committee voices reservations on party strategy
Core committee members also raised concerns about the party’s political line since Governor’s Rule took effect in the province, the sources said. One key member reportedly suggested that Barrister Saif be persuaded to take up an active role in the party again.
Parliamentary party seeks consultation and committee changes
The PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party has also expressed reservations about the political committee formed by Salman Akram Raja. In a statement, it said decisions should be reached through consultation that reflects ground realities and the views of party members from the province.
The group also called for the core committee set up by party founder Imran Khan to be reactivated. It further proposed that Barrister Gohar take the main responsibility for matters related to Adiala Jail, and that Barrister Saif be considered as the party’s representative on those matters.
