KP police seek 120% security allowance for southern districts

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have asked for large security challenge allowances for their personnel, along with billions of rupees in extra funding for weapons, equipment, vehicles and development work.

The request is set out in a summary sent to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. It ties the proposed allowances to basic salary and seeks funds for police procurement in the 2026–27 fiscal year.

Proposed security allowances by region

According to the summary, personnel serving in southern and merged districts should receive an allowance equal to 120 per cent of basic salary. Personnel in other settled districts would get 100 per cent, while those in the Hazara region have been recommended 75 per cent.

The summary says KP Police have been fighting terrorism for the past three decades and that, despite their sacrifices, personnel in the province receive lower salaries than their counterparts in other provinces. The allowances would add more than Rs5.15 billion in monthly expenditure.

Funding sought for weapons and equipment

The summary seeks procurement funds to address shortages of weapons, protective gear, surveillance systems and transport. More than Rs11.16 billion has been requested for settled districts, over Rs3.35 billion for merged districts, and a further Rs13.87 billion for weapons, modern equipment and transport.

The proposed purchases include:

  • submachine guns, rifles and 5.56mm firearms
  • bulletproof jackets and ballistic helmets
  • drones, thermal weapon sights and binoculars
  • anti-drone guns and modern counter-drone systems

The force has also asked for armoured personnel carriers and pickup vehicles to strengthen mobility and operational readiness.

Development schemes await approval process

Separately, the summary calls for release of funds for ongoing development schemes, technical upgrades and infrastructure projects. It includes Rs4.64 billion for 19 ongoing projects, more than Rs2.74 billion for technical upgradation and procurement, and Rs4.841 billion for police schemes under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP). The total sought for development is Rs12.22 billion.

According to the summary, the funds are needed to complete infrastructure projects, modernise police capabilities and ensure operational preparedness amid continuing security challenges. The proposed allowances and funding requests remain subject to the relevant approval process.
