    PM Orders Financial Aid for Families Impacted by Recent Floods

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday instructed the provision of financial aid to families affected by the recent heavy rains and floods. This assistance includes support for the families of those who lost their lives as well as for homeowners whose properties were fully or partially damaged by the floods.

    During a meeting focused on the impact of the recent monsoon rains and resulting damage, the prime minister emphasized the need to provide compensation to the families of flood victims. He also called for financial help to be extended to those whose houses suffered damage due to the severe weather conditions.

    In a significant development, the prime minister directed authorities to expedite the restoration of electricity transmission networks and roads in the flood-affected regions. He further instructed federal ministers and secretaries to personally visit these areas to assess the situation and ensure that rehabilitation efforts begin immediately.

    Meanwhile, the premier urged that relief operations be intensified, with food and other essential supplies delivered promptly to areas where access had been limited so far. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management bodies were instructed to remain fully prepared for ongoing relief efforts in anticipation of further rains and flooding.

    The meeting received updates on the 2026 monsoon’s impact and the progress of relief activities by provincial governments and the NDMA. It was highlighted that flood victims across affected regions had been relocated to safe locations in a timely manner. Teams from the NDMA and provincial authorities remain on standby to assist residents in case of additional flooding.

    the briefing, a total of 615 tonnes of relief materials have been dispatched to flood-hit areas across the country, with plans underway to send more supplies. Rehabilitation and infrastructure restoration in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are advancing rapidly.

    Notably, early warning systems in the northern areas have been operational, enabling the timely evacuation of numerous citizens before the floods struck. Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Moeen Wattoo, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, and Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, along with chief secretaries from the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, and senior officials from relevant departments attended the meeting.
