Pakistan and Iran have reiterated their dedication to bolstering bilateral cooperation in areas of security, border management, and regional stability. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is currently on a three-day official visit to Islamabad.
The visit highlights the increasing momentum in Pakistan-Iran relations, with both nations agreeing to deepen their collaboration on counterterrorism, counternarcotics efforts, curbing illegal immigration, and preventing human smuggling. Both sides emphasized the necessity of coordinated action to address shared security challenges, particularly along the Afghan border.
Upon arrival at the Ministry of Interior, Minister Momeni received a warm welcome, including a guard of honour presented by a well-disciplined contingent of the Federal Constabulary, underscoring the importance Pakistan places on this high-level engagement.
The two ministers initially held a private meeting before leading their respective delegations in extensive discussions covering bilateral relations, regional developments, and opportunities to expand cooperation between the neighboring countries. The talks focused heavily on enhancing institutional coordination to combat terrorism and narcotics trafficking, with both parties agreeing that closer cooperation is vital to effectively counter cross-border security threats.
Additionally, they resolved to improve mechanisms for joint efforts against illegal immigration and human smuggling, while strengthening coordination among relevant law enforcement agencies. Following the meeting, Minister Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran across all sectors.
He praised Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Momeni for their dedication to fostering peace and expressed optimism that ongoing diplomatic initiatives will produce positive results, ultimately contributing to lasting peace and stability in the region.
