The director of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Karachi Zone held a meeting with representatives from the All Pakistan Sarafa Jewellers and Gems Association to discuss allegations of violence against a trader during a recent raid in Karachi’s Saddar area. The agency’s spokesperson confirmed that the discussion centered on the incident and the concerns raised by traders regarding the operation in Sarafa Bazaar.

During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on the raid and its aftermath in the market. The FIA director assured the delegation that the investigation would be conducted in a comprehensive, transparent, and unbiased manner. He emphasized that every aspect of the case would be thoroughly examined, with a firm commitment to uphold the rule of law.

the spokesperson, the FIA will adhere strictly to legal requirements and institutional protocols while fulfilling its professional duties. The dialogue also covered issues related to cooperation, confidence-building, and addressing the grievances of the business community.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the FIA’s efforts in fostering coordination and maintaining positive engagement on the matter. This meeting follows a raid carried out on May 15, 2026, targeting a jewellery shop in Sarafa Bazaar over allegations of silver smuggling.

Initially, the FIA stated that records indicated the shop should have held 178 kilogrammes of silver, but only 15 kilogrammes of locally branded silver were recovered. It was further alleged that the missing 163 kilogrammes might have been removed amid disturbances reportedly caused by traders and shopkeepers during the operation.

Earlier, CCTV footage emerged showing an FIA official slapping a trader who tried to forcibly exit during the search. In response to the incident, the agency suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) of its Anti-Corruption Circle based on preliminary observations and available evidence.
